Mike and Julia met in the Pilates industry. Having shared their love for everything movement related they decided to combine their expertise together and open Pilates on the Lane.

They want people to feel stronger, fitter and live more active and pain free lifestyles, doing the activities they love for as many years as possible.

They specialise in helping people deal with injuries and conditions such as:

  • neck pain

  • recovery from shoulder surgery, chronic stiffness or frozen shoulder

  • osteoporosis

  • arthritis

  • hip replacement rehab and recovery

  • knee rehab

  • lower back and sciatica (we have a 6 week back pain programme to help you get on top of your pain)

  • pre and post natal

Founder and Owner of Pilates on the Lane

Julia is originally from South Africa and has been practicing pilates for over 13 years. She has a degree in Human movement Science and became a fully qualified BASI (Body Arts & Science International) Pilates instructor in 2010. She later became a BASI faculty member in 2016, teaching students to become instructors.

Julia is fully qualified in pre and post natal care. After having her daughter, Julia realised there is not enough support for women through their postpartum journey. She is very passionate and thrives on helping women regain their strength and muscular connection.

Julia is forever learning about the body and has a number of further qualifications under her belt:

  •   Level 3 certified in Neurokinetic Therapy

  • Recently completed Enhanced Performance course with Katie St. Claire

  • Injuries and Pathologies with BASI Pilates

  • Pregnancy and Beyond with BASI Pilates.

Mike has a background as a sportsman and is also a fitness and Spinning instructor. He has a great knowledge of the body and how to get the most efficient use out of it in sports and in rehab. He has great compassion as a teacher, and knows how to challenge, respect and enlighten whoever he is teaching.

From a fanatical sporting family, Mike played county schools’ rugby union, cricket and hockey for Somerset. Whilst at university he played international rugby league for Scotland Students and represented London Skolars in the National Conference League. A disc injury took Mike away from rugby and into marathon running, cycling, triathlon, fitness and sports coaching and Spinning instructing, as well as Pilates.

Mike trained as a comprehensive (mat and equipment) Pilates teacher through BASI (Body Arts and Science International) in 2015. He has been part of the BASI UK Faculty team since 2020, training students to become teachers.

He has undertaken advanced certification BASI courses in Pilates for Injuries & Pathologies and Pilates for Pregnancy and Beyond and has completed BASI workshops in Pilates for Ageing, Pilates for Hypermobility and Pilates for Scoliosis.
